Risë Van Fleet

Risë VanFleet, Ph.D., RPT-S, CDBC, is a licensed psychologist, registered play therapist-supervisor, and certified dog behavior consultant. She is founder and president of the Family Enhancement & Play Therapy Center, an independent practice specializing in children and families in Pennsylvania, USA.  She is well-known throughout the world for her training programs on play therapy and family therapy. She has also been active in the animal world, providing dog behavior consults to families, as well as training therapists to work effectively, playfully, and humanely in relationship with dogs, horses, cats, and other animals through the International Institute for Animal Assisted Play Therapy™ which she co-founded.

Dr. VanFleet has 45 years of experience working effectively with people. Her training courses and writings have garnered over 12 national and international awards for quality and impact. Her book, Play Therapy with Kids & Canines won the Dog Writers Association of America award for best of all book on therapy and service dogs in 2008, and The Human Half of Dog Training: Collaborating with Clients to Get Results was named one of the top four books on dog training in 2013. She has trained and mentored people throughout the world in her relationship-based approach to people and animals, and is known for her warm, positive, practical approach.
